A word about Invisalign...

Century Orthodontics, the office of Drs. Waxler and Cavanaugh, has a proud tradition stretching back more than 100 years and three centuries of orthodontic excellence. Since the founding of the practice in 1896, generations of St. Louisans have trusted their smiles to Century Orthodontics. To better serve its extended patient base, the practice has offices conveniently located in Clayton, Manchester, and Wildwood.

Century Orthodontics specializes in orthodontic treatment for all ages. Besides traditional metal and tooth-colored braces, the doctors are particularly excited about the Invisalign® technique. Invisalign, though deceptively simple (just a bunch of clear trays), has a steep learning curve. Some problems that appear minor are not easily treated with Invisalign®, while other, seemingly very difficult cases are surprisingly more easily treated with Invisalign® than traditional braces.

Century Orthodontics was one of the first offices in the country to offer Invisalign®. Drs. Waxler and Cavanaugh are pioneers in this breakthrough technology, providing patients with Invisalign®, since its introduction in 1999. Just this year, a major upgrade of the Invisalign® system has allowed the doctors to tackle even more complex cases

Drs. Waxler and Cavanaugh have the expertise that comes with extensive experience. This gives them the ability to know how to react when the teeth are not responding as expected and to “push the envelope” to treat cases with Invisalign® that many, otherwise-expert orthodontists would say require regular braces. In fact, some of the practice’s most satisfying cases were patients who previously had been told that they were not candidates for Invisalign® treatment. Drs. Waxler and Cavanaugh pride themselves in their ability to get the most out of this exciting new technology.

This year, Century Orthodontics once again achieved the status of an Elite Invisalign® Provider. The office was bestowed this privilege due to the practice’s extraordinary level of experience with Invisalign® treatment based on the number of patients treated. Fewer that 1 percent of all orthodontic practices has achieved this recognition.

Your First Visit

At the first visit to our office, diagnostic records may be taken to determine the best course of treatment. Complete diagnostic records typically include a medical/dental history, clinical examination, plaster study models (or digital impressions for Invisalign)  of the teeth, photos of the patient's face and teeth, and X-rays. This information is used to develop a custom treatment plan for each patient. These records are also helpful in tracking the progress of treatment as the teeth move under orthodontic care.

We offer a complimentary no charge first visit for you to meet and talk with the doctor.  If you then decide that you would like to proceed, diagnostic records may be taken. Our fee for these records, our diagnostic workup, and the following consultation appointment is $325.  Patients who require consultations for TMD(jaw joint problems) or for 2nd opinions who are not considering treatment at our office may occur charges for their initial visits.

Consultation

After the doctor has evaluated your records, we discuss your treatment with you in detail, including the cost for your particular case.

Regular Appointments

The appointment when you get your appliances (braces, expanders, etc.) usually takes from one to two hours (Invisalign appointments are often much shorter). You'll then see us at regular intervals 4 to 8 weeks apart for an adjustment, which takes 20 to 40 minutes. In order to be convenient for as many patients as possible we are open Monday – Thursday from 7:30 to 5:00, some Monday nights til 6:45 and some Saturday mornings. We make every effort to be on time for our patients and ask that you extend the same courtesy to us. If you cannot keep an appointment, please notify us immediately. Cancel only if it is an emergency. It is difficult to reschedule you since most appointments are made 4 to 8 weeks in advance.

Payment & Office Policies

Cost

The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options before treatment begins. We have payment plans to suit different budgets, including a no-down-payment option. We also accept assignment from most insurance plans and we will file the necessary papers to the insurance company. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable.

Fees

In an effort to keep orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:
  • As a courtesy to our referring dentists there is no charge for the initial orthodontic examination.
  • Consultations regarding Temporal Mandibular Dysfunction (TMD, TMJ) are $45-$135.
  • Second opinions regarding on-going orthodontic treatment at another office are $45-$135
  • Our diagnostic workup fee, which may include a cephalometric radiograph, study models of the teeth, dental and facial photographs, and consultation visit is $325.
Treatment fees are dependent on many factors including the difficulty of treatment, time necessary, when treatment will begin and the type of appliances. We will be glad to give you our best estimate at the initial appointment, but it may be necessary to wait until the diagnosis has been made to determine the extent of the problems and the treatment necessary. Many orthodontic problems may require limited treatment at relatively inexpensive fees. We welcome the opportunity to discuss fees on an individual basis.

Methods of Payment

Orthodontic treatment is an investment that can last a lifetime. Our goal is to provide the best possible orthodontic service in an affordable manner. We have a number of different plans for achieving these goals:
  • Comprehensive treatment fees can be paid off over the period of treatment with no interest fees charged on current accounts.
  • No down payment financing available through Care Credit
  • We accept Visa and MasterCard as well as cash and checks. We participate in most major insurance programs.

Insurance

Our office participates in a number of insurance and managed care programs. Due to the variety of the "insurance" programs in effect at this time, determining your portion of the fees can be difficult. For this reason if you wish to provide us with the program name, group number, etc. before your first visit we will be happy to investigate your benefits for you. Our office will also submit charges for services to your insurance company. However, we do consider the patient primarily responsible for the account. We will cooperate with the insurance company as much as possible, but we cannot assume the responsibility of securing benefits for you. Remember that insurance companies generally are most responsive to requests for information from individual policy holders. Insurance preauthorization is normally applied for after the "report" appointment, when we have all agreed on the proposed plan. Please bring any necessary forms with you so that we may assist you in filing.
